If even a fraction of the people who use the AO3 chipped in, we'd totally have that covered. When I think of how much enjoyment fic brings me on a daily basis, donating is a no-brainer. Time to pony up the cash. I think of it as part of my entertainment budget, like going out to a restaurant or going to the movies. I also think of it as a charitable contribution, like franzeska said in her OTW April Drive post: I give for all the fans who cannot, especially for that 13-year-old fan just discovering fic and a whole universe of like-minded dreamers and pervs.

comments

The best thing about finally finishing my Person of Interest vid? Getting to watch other people's PoI vids. I've mentioned before that if I'm thinking about vidding a fandom, I put myself on lockdown and try not to watch any vids for that fandom. I bet other vidders do this too--it's to keep a sort of visual "purity," so that you are approaching the clips from your own unique perspective, uninfluenced by what others vidders are doing. Also, it's so that you don't get discouraged and start thinking, "Damn, Vidder X has already made a fantastic vid for this fandom. Why should I bother?" My vid lockdowns can be quite trying at times; for example, I still want to vid Teen Wolf someday, so I have watched basically zero Teen Wolf vids beyond what I saw last year at the Teen Wolf viewing party at Vividcon. I have denied myself Sterek vids, you guys. Pity me!

( Person of Interest vid recs here )

P.S.
I am pleased to announce that I am one of the vidders offering my services at the Vividcon auction. You can find the bidding page here: http://vividcon.com/auction2013.cgi

There's a great lineup of vidders this year, and I'm excited to be a part of raising money for such a good cause. If you don't know, vividcon is an annual vidding convention held in Chicago in August, and they hold a vidder auction beforehand, where people can "buy" a vid made-to-order. The proceeds go towards the expenses of the con, to help keep the registration fees low.

Since I'm sort of at loose ends at the moment, with no plans for submitting premieres to any cons, I have the time to make a vid, so I happily volunteered. You'll see at the auction site that I'm offering a slew of fandoms, but I have a feeling that it's going to come down to two shows. Just call it an intuition. ;)

If you have some money just burning a hole in your pocket, go check out the auction. Even if you don't have any money, it's still fun to watch the bidding. The auction ends March 30, 11:59PM Eastern time, so tomorrow might see some action!

ETA: I forgot to mention that I have participated in this auction before. Back in 2009, miss_tress won a Smallville vid, and I made my Clark opus magnus, "That's Not My Name". Good times!!

comments

Thanks to a certain very generous fan, I was able to mainline all of Person of Interest season 2 over the weekend. That's 18 episodes in two days, people. I don't think I've ever done anything like that before: I tend not to marathon television shows, as I like to parcel episodes out one at time and watch with my dinner, or while I'm clipping, etc. My eyes hurt from all this watching. Physical pain. The songs are all true--love hurts!! *facepalms* As if that inundation in PoI were not enough, last night astolat posted a deliciously perfect Reese/Finch kidfic that I devoured right before going to bed. Is it any wonder that I woke from Reese/Finch dreams this morning? I mean, really!

Here's the fic, by the way:

Hamartia (the hero's fatal flaw) (15280 words) by astolat
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Person of Interest (TV)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Harold Finch/John Reese
Characters: Harold Finch, John Reese, Leila Smith, Bear (Person of Interest)
Summary:
"We're not looking to make friends, Harold," John said. "We want our neighbors to classify us and then avoid us. Being the scandalous gay couple down the street is a good option."

Go read it. It is A-MAH-ZING, as Penny from Happy Endings would say.

I need a PoI icon (current icon chosen because at least it has a phone). Where can I get one? I did a search on Dreamwidth and came up with diddlysquat. Are they hiding on Livejournal?

My Reese/Finch vid song is running through my mind on a continuous loop, and I've finished ripping and clipping season 1. But now that I've seen Season 2, I *have* to incorporate some of that footage in the vid. How can I not? Season 2 is like pure fannish bait. This show is so mind-bogglingly shippy. I am replete with squee.

comments

Questions about burning DVDs

Last year I was asked about submitting a DVD of my vids for the Fandom Preservation Project. I was very flattered, and as an archivist, I'm all for saving my works for posterity. Sadly, lo these many months later, I haven't yet managed to pull my shit together. But this morning I was looking through my video files, and it turns out I have all kinds of m2v/wav files of my vids lying around, accumulated due to submitting stuff to cons over the years.

I have a few questions about the whole process of burning DVDs:

1.) What DVD-writing software do you use?
2.) How completist are people, usually? Should I include my very first Smallville vids to show the progression from baby vidder to master vidder (haha!!)?
3.) How many copies do people usually make? Like, if you brought it Vividcon, how many copies did you need?
4.) Do you burn the copies just on your DVD-drive on your computer? (I worry that mine may explode half-way through)
5.) Do I need to make a cover and labels? I have not the skill!

...I think there's a reason that I've never put out a DVD before. It seems awfully labor-intensive. :P

comments

For those of you interested in the monetization of fandom, check out this letter I just got via YouTube:

Hi talitha78onLJ,

How are you doing? I'm a talent scout for BLAHBLAH [<--name redacted] Talent Network and came across your channel and just wanted to reach out and see if you are interested in becoming a YouTube partner.

I am extending you a genuine invitation so I hope that this is something you are truly interested in. If not then I apologize and won't contact you again. Either way I wish you the best. Cheers!

Becoming a YouTube partner is how you unlock all of the professional features possible in your account to optimize your channel for more views and maximize your revenue per view. Our network members also get tons of exclusive perks including free copyright free music (we own a massive library) so you won't get any more of those annoying 3rd party claims, and cross promotion of your channel within our rapidly growing network of 450 million monthly views.

Please take a moment to check us out here and get started:

http://BLAHBLAH.adrev.website

Kindest regards,

- Kim

Uh. I don't think Kim really wants me to be making money off of my vids. That would be a BAD IDEA for everyone concerned. Although--I suppose I should feel flattered that they want me to sell out. That must mean I've truly arrived. :P

comments

Whew, sliding in just under the wire with some Festivids recs the night before reveals. In my own defense, there were a lot of vids this year. A LOT. Something like 200. This is not to say that I watched all of the vids; I never do. There are a variety of reasons: if a source looks too aggravating/scary/gory, I'll skip. If I don't want to spoil myself, or if the vid uses a song that I might someday want to use myself, I'll skip. Etc. Anyway, even skipping a bunch, there are some amazing vids to be seen; the overall quality of the fest is fantastic, as always. As far as trends go, this was a good year for sources featuring women--so many kickass women characters featured! Have we designated the patron saint of Festivids already? If not, may I nominate Lucy Liu? Or what about Gina Torres? A general style trend I noticed was a lot of straight cutting and only very minimal use of special effects. As far as song choice, there were a lot of medleys. I'm not usually a fan of medleys, but I have to say, there were some well utilized ones in this year's fest.

At any rate, I encourage you to check out the masterlist to see if there is a vid to that rare source that you never thought you'd see vidded (hey, garryowen, there's a Wallander vid!). Masterlist on Livejournal and Masterlist on Dreamwidth

Now on to the reccage! First of all, I must point out my favorite of all of this year's Festivids, my giftvids. They are the BEST. Once you've watched those, here are some others that I greatly admired, presented in the order in which I viewed them as I meandered through the masterlist.

Charlie's Angels Movies
"Circus of Heartbreakin' Divas" and "Pound the Alarm". Both of the vids for this movie are fun, fun, fun and feature spot-on action editing.

Gormenghast
"Devils". You know that vid that makes you want to immediately go out and buy the song? This is that vid for me. The song/source match-up here is just so exquisitely perfect that in my heart of hearts, I believe that Florence wrote "Seven Devils" while watching Gormenghast and weeping into her sleeve. Every time I hear the song, I think of Jonathan Rhys Meyer's angry little face.

Zoolander
"Sexyback". I loved the humor and the beatwork on this one.

Parks & Recreation
"Give Me Everything". An uplifting vid focusing on all of the awesome ladies of Parks and Rec. The Leslie/Ann slashers out there will not be disappointed.

The City of Lost Children (1995)
"Miette Pour La Vie". I have long longed for a City of Lost Children vid, and now there is one, and it perfectly captures everything that is wonderful and weird about the film.

Magic Mike
"Less Plot, More Stripping". I support this vidder's agenda 100%.

Miami Vice
"Too Soon". Oh, lordy. What can I say about this vid? This is the vid that made me laugh the most out of all of the Festivids of 2012. Imagine the cheesiest, most ridiculously earnest slash vid you ever saw and multiply that by a factor of ten. Then you will have an idea of what this vid is about. It's Tubbs/Crocket with Ricardo belting out his unrequited love for Sonny to Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You." All four and a half minutes of it. There are tears and lipsynching and a KITTEN. It's a modern masterpiece, I tellya. LOLOLOL.

Mirror's Edge
"Raise Your Weapon". I know nothing about game vidding, but I found this very cool with impressive editing.

Whale Rider
"Sons and Daughters". There is such a beautiful feeling of family to this vid. It made me cry.

Chak De! India
"Hadippa!". A great character study vid with a super-catchy song.

Charlie's Angels (1976)
"The Angelic Look". Come for the femmeslash, stay for the fantastic editing.

Cleopatra 2525
"Lady Marmalade". I've watched a few episodes of Cleopatra 2525, and it is one part cheese, two parts cheap special effects, and one part kickass hot ladies. In their wisdom, the vidder chose to emphasize the last part, and as a result we get a great vid full of female action heroes and Gina Torres owning everything in sight.

Colombiana (2011)
"Not Afraid". I've not seen this movie, but a brilliant song choice and fantastic editing really brings it to life for me here.

Sense & Sensibility (1995)
"Rondo". Phenomenal use of the music in this vid--this is how you work an instrumental. Who needs lyrics when you can build a narrative around the "voices" of the instruments? And such lovely editing: precise, feather-light cutting that will leave you sighing in satisfaction.

The Hollow Crown
"Somewhere a Clock is Ticking". I don't know this source beyond having read the Shakespeare plays and recognizing the divine Hiddleston's face (for the uninitiated, he's the actor who plays Loki in the Marvel movies), but it looks gorgeous. Or at least the vidder makes it look gorgeous. Whoever made this vid knows their craft, knows how to build a narrative and make the most out of movement and framing. This is a beautifully executed, masterful vid.

comments

First of all, I am thrilled to have received three vids. I've never gotten treats before, so I feel like a won the lottery or something. I am ecstatic over my vid bounty. Here they are, presented in alphabetical order according to fandom:

Good Will Hunting

"Diamonds"--on Livejournal or on Dreamwidth: First of all, as far as song choice is concerned, this is a perfect case of the vidder knowing their audience. How much do I love Rihanna, you guys? SO MUCH. Basically, they had me at song choice, but then the vid itself is everything I wanted in a Good Will Hunting vid. I requested feels and I got FEELS. Will needs to "shine bright like a diamond"! You know it's true. <3

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead

"Rosencrantz And Guildenstern are (Still Alive)"-- on Livejournal or on Dreamwidth: The reason I requested a vid for this movie is because I would have no idea how to make one myself, and I wanted to see it done for that reason alone. How do you make a vid for such a dialogue-dependent source? This vid is the answer: you pick the right song and a super-smart concept and you work them to perfection. I almost feel like this vid is above my reading level; there are probably all sorts of subtleties I am missing. However, I know enough to give the vid a hearty round of applause! *clappyhands*

RuPaul's Drag Race

"Cover Girl"-- on Livejournal or on Dreamwidth: This vid. Oh, THIS VID. It is pure joy and will put a smile on your face. It's Season 3: The Highlights Version, and will become my go-to happytime vid whenever I want a dose of drag queen fierceness. It captures all of the glamor, humor, and gorgeousness of the Season Three contestants, and the Raja section is a thing of particular beauty. So much love!!

Thank you to all of my Festividders, whoever you might be. You have made me a very happy human today. :D :D :D

comments

I meant to post this yesterday for More Joy Day, but lethargy got the best of me. I've been really tired all week, probably fighting off that flu that's been making the rounds. I haven't succumbed yet (knock wood), but I feel drained of all energy. This means that no vidding has occurred in the last week, and my chances of having something ready for Escapade are decreasing rapidly. Ah, well. I wish I could go this year, but it seems that Escapade is destined to be an every-other-year con for me. I also can't make it to VidUKon, which means I will be breaking my streak of going to ALL THE VIDUKONS. *sadface* Alas, I am a poor archivist and can only afford one big indulgence this year, and since that indulgence is New Zealand, I'm not going to complain too much. :D
---
Stuff to give away

1.) One AO3 invite. I requested one to get a Steve/Bucky author on the Archive, but then she got an invite from someone else, so I have an extra. Speaking of Steve/Bucky, have you guys seen the latest shirtless Sebastian Stan photos from that play he's in: http://brumous.tumblr.com/post/40216314219. Ay, papi! And then Brumous went and made a Winter Soldier sketch based on that photo: http://brumous.tumblr.com/post/40235997125/reference-photo and I go BOOM. *fans self*

ETA: Invite has been claimed.

2.) Season One DVDs of Lost Girl. As much as I tried, I just am not digging this show. I hope this will go to a happy new home. ETA: DVDs have been claimed!

comments

Somebody wrote a fic for me. For me! And not just anybody, but arysteia, author of the hugely popular Steve/Tony fic The Twice-Told Tale. She's basically the best, and she wrote me Thor/Loki with angsty high drama, an unreliable narrator, and bonus mpreg. You all know how much I love me some mpreg, but have I mentioned before how much I love an unreliable narrator? It's one of my absolute favorite devices; I use it all the time in my vids. Whether anyone else realizes that's what I'm doing is the question... Anyway, arysteia uses the device to great effect in "Cold Hands Warm Heart," and you all should read it and admire. :)

Thank you for my story, V. I'm the luckiest girl in the world!

Cold Hands Warm Heart (8017 words) by arysteia
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Thor (Movies), The Avengers (2012), Captain America (Movies), Iron Man (Movies)
Rating: Mature
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Loki/Thor, Steve Rogers/Tony Stark
Characters: Loki (Marvel), Thor (Marvel), Steve Rogers, Tony Stark
Summary:
Norse mythology, Aesir mythography, Jotun biology, Midgard legend. There's not a reliable narrator in the bunch.

The other fic I would like to draw your attention to is "How to Survive on a Desert Planet" by exeterlinden. It is the Yuletide fic of my heart. As a rule, I don't read a lot of Yuletide, for a couple of reasons:

1.) I'm a visually oriented person, so literary fandoms don't do a whole lot for me (notable exceptions being Sherlock Holmes canon because I imagine Jeremy Brett as Sherlock and Jude Law as Watson and can thus buckle down to read a ton of fic, and Tanya Huff's The Fire Stone for providing Baby's First OT3.)

2.) I like long fic.

But when I saw this fic recced on somebody else's journal, I jumped on it. Enemy Mine is one of my all-time favorite movies (note to self: request for Festivids next year), and it is ripe for the slashing. The plot is the ultimate deserted island scenario: two enemies crash-landed on an unpopulated planet having to join forces to survive. It's sooooo goooood, you guys. Exeterlinden builds on the excellent plot and makes it AU in the best possible way. I love this story, and I wish it were about 50,000 words longer, but I shan't be greedy because what's there is gold. GOLD.

How to Survive on a Desert Planet (12084 words) by exeterlinden
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Enemy Mine (1985)
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Willis Davidge/Jeriba Shigan
Characters: Jeriba Shigan, Willis Davidge, Zammis
Summary:
"In this stunning sci-fi adventure, two warriors engaged in a savage futuristic war between Earth and the planet Dracon crash-land on a desolate fiery planet. At first the human and his reptilian alien opponent are intent on destroying each other. But after battling the elements and each other, the two stranded pilots gradually realize that the only way either of them will survive is to overcome their undying hatred."

... That's what it says on the back of the DVD. What follows below is an AU take on how that goes...

comments

I felt a bit of pressure vidding for her because she's one of the fantastic co-mods of the fest (the other being the wonderful giandujakiss), and I desperately wanted to make something she would like. Luckily, we matched on both Haven and Audrey/Nathan/Duke, which I was thrilled to see. I ADORE Audrey; she's such an amazing character--intelligent, funny, and courageous. Audrey loves Nathan and Duke so much and would do anything to protect them. It just GETS to me.
I'm relieved to report that my Festivid assignment has been completed. I had a bit of a scare yesterday when it took multiple tries to get my computer to turn on, but it finally did, and then it performed like a champ for the rest of the night, long enough for me to get a first draft completed. I slapped some credits on that sucker and exported it as soon as I got the timeline filled in, so that if worst came to worst, I would have *something* to offer my recipient, even if it wasn't super polished. But then I took a look at the draft, and I actually love it just as it is (she says modestly), so I'm calling it done. I'm not even gonna get it beta'd. I know, I'm terrible. My recipient will receive this vid raw, straight and unfiltered from my brain to their eyes. Yeah!!! *giggles*

I've already uploaded it to my server space for safekeeping, and I'll upload it to the Festivid site when I get home. Whew! That's a load off my mind.

Now that I don't have to spend the upcoming weekend pulling all-nighters for my assignment, I'm thinking I might have time to squeeze out something for Escapade. I have a couple of works in progress already clipped, and one of them is a kind of humor/crack idea that might play well to an audience. I'll see if my computer continues to be the little engine that could.
---
I forgot to say thank you for my vgifts: redina, duskwillow, and lilly_the_kid, thank you so much for thinking of me! *hugs*

comments

Sincere Happy New Year wishes to all of my people on the Internets!!! *group hug* You guys add so much to my life; I wouldn't be the same person without you. You make me laugh, you make me sigh, you expand the boundaries of my experience. Oh, I'm getting sappy. I hope the new year brings good things to each and every one of you.

Special thanks to those who have sent me cards. My entire family gets a kick out of them; my mom when she brings them up to our apartment (she thinks I must be super-popular :), and my sister who is in charge of the arrangement of the Wall o' Cards. You all rock: <img src='http://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png' alt='[personal profile] ' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: text-bottom; It's like I'm on the cusp of vid farr: not quite at the obsessive "oh god I want to vid every waking moment" stage, but definitely feeling a pang about not being able to work on it today because I'll be out having a (gasp!) social life. I would feel 100% confident of my chances of finishing the vid by the January 6 deadline, if not for the small fact that my vidding computer is in its death throes. Ack! I have to run start-up recovery every time I boot up. That can't be good. I'm coddling it and petting it and telling it it only has to make it through one more week. Just one more week before it goes to its final rest. Poor little computer. I've worked it hard in its lifetime. It's tired.

comments

At the moment, I'm feeling somewhat overwhelmed by my assignment. I really, really want to do this character justice and didn't want to miss a single facial expression, so I clipped a lot of footage. *frets* If I can get myself organized, I think it'll be good, but I might have to change my standard operating procedure. And me? Not so fond of change. Oh, well, it's for a good cause; I have to remember that. *dives back in*

comments

I owe comments and thanks for holiday cards (I've gotten some amazing ones in the past week), but instead I am going to try to articulate what bothered me about The Hobbit, which I saw last Friday with reppu and svmadelyn. I haven't seen anyone else on LJ/DW touch on this particular issue, although I did see one post on Tumblr that summed it up for me. I'm at work at the moment with Tumblr blocked by our firewall, but I'll add the link when I get home. ETA: Here's the link: http://currentboat.tumblr.com/post/37910820541/somebody-told-a-real-life-woman-that-her-skin-was ( I guess the rest of this should go behind a cut )

comments

Everyone else has left for the afternoon, and I'm sleepy, so I'm just gonna noodle around on the internets until it's time to go home. I've been shopping around for new people to read on kouredios' friending meme and have subscribed to a bunch of folks. *waves hello* There's not a huge amount of activity here on my journal, so please don't feel obliged to subscribe back.

I have tomorrow off, and my daytime schedule will consist of finishing the clipping for my Festivid while writing some hundred or so holiday cards. The evening has been set aside to go see the Hobbit. svmadelyn sent around an invitation emphasizing the 169 MINUTE runtime, and challenging us by asking "who's in it to win it." Uh, I guess I am, even though I'm not the biggest JRR Tolkien fan. I never read the books and I only ever saw the first LOTR film. Truthfully, I'm there for the Martin Freeman. Oh, and the 9-minute Star Trek trailer, although I'm of two minds on the matter. Do I really want to spoil myself that badly? But then I rationalize it by thinking that surely JJ Abrams is smart enough to give us a teaser that will whet our appetite and not spoil it entirely. Please don't eff it up, JJ Abrams.

Because clipping is a fairly mindless activity, I usually have some show or other running in the background, and this week, my clipping accompaniment has been Season 1 of Person of Interest. I'm suprising myself by how much I'm enjoying it. I know I've seen numerous people on my friendslist praise it, and I bought the set based on those recommendations (particularly spasticat's), but I had been putting off watching it until just now. The premise didn't particularly grab me, and neither one of the lead actors struck me as hot (I can't help it, I am a shallow creature). But now that I'm watching the show, I'm impressed by the acting and the chemistry between the two leads, and Reese's badass competence is brutally sexy to me. I'm intrigued by Finch's backstory, and I like Carter's determination and persistence. I only wish that some of the Numbers were people of color. However, I've only seen about a half dozen episodes, so maybe they're still coming.

Me being me, of course I have a vid idea for PoI, but I have no idea when it's getting made. I'm finding my Festivid slow going, not because I don't love the source, but because I feel creatively burned out. All of those years of finishing 10 vids a year--maybe I used up all my juice? Heh. I'm sure I'll get over it.

Anyway, forget about my vids. Here's someone else's vid to get excited about. I found this one via Tumblr last week. It's RDJ/Jude-verse Sherlock Holmes by gabygal7, and it's gorgeous:
<lj-embed id="141" />

In case embed doesn't work: http://youtu.be/dYEtGeHLF1I

comments

Don't let me waste a stamp on sending a card to the wrong address. Don't hurt me like that, bbs. *puppy eyes*

In other news, I'm very pleased by the response to the Star Trek trailer, even if I haven't worked up the nerve to watch it myself. Luckily, I never have to watch anything myself anymore because Tumblr thoroughly spoils me for the best bits within the hour. A certain iconic final image has caused a bit of heart-clenching, I'm not gonna lie. It's prompted me to hit up AO3 for all the Kirk/Spock I missed in the last year. Right now, I'm reading a long, not-particularly-good hurt!Jim story where poor Captain Kirk has been captured and traumatized by Kodos, and Spock, in his attempt to help him recover, accidentally incites a soulbond. As one does. I tellya, there ain't nothing like Star Trek for that old-fashioned soulbond goodness. AHHHHHH.

comments

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate!

In the last week, I have seen Breaking Dawn II and Skyfall and enjoyed them about equally, for different reasons. Breaking Dawn was a total riot, so funny and cringe-worthy and entertaining. svmadelyn, nebulist and I were fortunate enough to watch it with a a highly interactive audience, and the entire place about fell out of their seats over the "twist" at the end. Good times.

Skyfall was a gorgeous spectacle, with beautiful colors, settings, and clothing, plus fabulous acting. This is my first time watching Daniel Craig as Bond, and I must say he does a great job. His Bond is very human--he even had some woobie moments that I quite enjoyed. Of course, the women in the film get very short shrift, which is a bit maddening, but not surprising. Javier Bardem as the villain was AMAZING. Worth the price of admission for him alone. Oh, and I loooooove Adele's "Skyfall" song. That one's going to be in steady rotation for a while.

I went into the film hoping that I would fall for the 007/Q or 00Q as the kids are calling it, since it appears to be building up a respectable fandom (at least from my observation on Tumblr and Pinboard). But alas, I was underwhelmed by their chemistry. Don't get me wrong, I'll still read the fic, but I don't think it's going to be a big obsession of mine.

However, Ayrotciv8 has produced an astoundingly well-made vid for them already, which I highly recommend:

<lj-embed id="133" />

In case embed doesn't work: http://youtu.be/phvsqjXjS7w

comments

Saturday my sister and I took Bubba the recalcitrant reveler to Howl-o-ween. Initially, we had him in the yellow submarine costume that norabombay gave me, but I decided it didn't quite suit him, so we put him in his trusty "gay bouncer" costume (black t-shirt with "Bubba" written on it and a sassy red bandana).

I have to say, this year's crop of costumes were not as impressive as last year's. There were a lot more bought costumes and not as much creativity. My favorites were the Dogtor Whos, the pile of leaves, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the taco, and the binder of women.

( Many large photos here )

Thank you to duskwillow and lilly_the_kid for the Halloween user gifts, as well as to darlulu and Anonymous who gave me user gifts last month. I'm so flattered that you thought of me. :D

Hope everyone is doing well in the aftermath of Sandy. *hugs*

comments

My Festivids assignment is pleasing, if unexpected. Every year I try to predict which fandom I will match on, to the point of picking out songs and planning narratives. Then every year I end up getting a fandom I hadn't reckoned on at all. Of course I love the source, that's why I offered it, but I don't have a solid song choice to go with it. I have a song that I love that I think works tonally, but the lyrics are not perfect. I may use it anyway and just shoehorn the source to fit the lyrics. At any rate, I'm excited to dig into it.
----
I didn't rush to write a Dear Festividder letter because I'm not adding anything beyond what's already on the official request, but if anyone is curious about what I asked for, here it is:

Babe series [Movie]

Details: I love these movies, everything about them: the sense of humor, the sense of affection for the characters, the dash of surrealism.

The City of Lost Children (1995) [Movie]

Details: What I love about this film is its striking visuals and its oddness.

Face/Off (1997) [Movie]

Details: I love the action movie cliches perpetuated in this movie, and Cage and Travolta chewing up the scenery.

Good Will Hunting [Movie]

Details: Every time I watch this movie, it makes me cry. Lots of FEELINGs here.

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead [Movie]

Details: I would have no idea how to vid this movie; that's why I'd like to see it done.

RuPaul's Drag Race [TV]

Details: I've only seen Season 3 of this show, so a vid focusing on that season would be ideal. My favorites are Shangela and Raja.

Short Circuit series [Movie]

Details: Quirky robots for the win!

Watership Down [Movie]

Details: This film is a piece of my childhood. Humor or seriousness, I'll love anything.
---

OTW Membership Drive
October 13-17, 2012

My primary motivation for giving money to the OTW: I need the AO3. It is a necessity of life. I repeat: I NEEDS it. So I give what I can in order to ensure its continuation. The end.

comments
